My profile

Sarah Youde (aka monroegirl)
Plymouth, UK.

I love to scrap and I love to stitch. I also love reading, eating and the odd glass of red wine! I only wish I had more time to do all the things I love. Most of my time is taken up looking after a couple of other things I love and they are my two gorgeous children Ben and Charlotte. They ARE gorgeous, I am not biased, I have been blessed with beautiful children which is a good thing because I have such wonderful subjects for my scrapbooking addiction.

I am married to Mark and we will celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary in July - we are just as happy now as when we first met. He would rather I didn't spend any money on scrapbooking or cross stitch stash but if I didn't do that I would be perfect and surely that would be really boring! Anyway, this blog is a sort of diary / gallery and I enjoy updating my blog for myself and my family but any visitors are welcome :o)

No Way!

I can't believe it is so long since I have blogged! What is going on? Well, nothing actually lol.
I seem to have been busy doing nothing. I did have visitors last weekend which was nice and we have taken the kids to Flambards a couple of times but that is about it! It just seems that we are roaming around, teaching Ben to count and read and keeping Charlotte occupied.
We have rearranged the house a bit and we no longer have a playroom for the children. Instead we have a family Den. We love it, it is a little room off the kitchen and there is enough room for my scrapping desk, a tv and a sofa! It is so cosy that we haven't even used our lounge since. The main reason for this was that in the house that we are renting at the moment (in the depths of Cornwall) the heating doesn't work. With the winter coming we thought it would be a lot easier to just heat the kitchen and the den and live in that part of the house. Last year was horrendous and I am sure it was colder indoors than it was outside most of the time Brrr.
I had some good news last night regarding a scrapping mag and I am really excited about it, I am a little nervous as well but I don't think I should divulge what it is at the moment :) I wish I could say it was to be on a design team but it isn't THAT exciting. Still, it is a step in the right direction. I would love to work for a mag once Charlotte is at school next September but I don't think that is going to happen. Never mind. I couldn't sleep last night with all these ideas going around in my head. I think I need to put a notepad on the bedside table as I always forget the ideas when I get up the next day.
It is pouring down with rain here today, I think Autumn is definitely here. I can't believe I was in the park with the kids wearing T-shirts just two weeks ago.

It's The Weekend

Hooray, I don't have to get up and rush around like a loon getting the kids ready for school tomorrow. I can't wait :)

Thursdays are the worse day because Ben goes to school in the morning and Charlotte goes in the afternoon so I am up and down the village four times a day. You can guarantee the child that is walking with me to pick up the other one just doesn't want to walk fast enough!

I think they are both tired after their week at school because they are sitting in the playroom watching the tv and being relatively good.

I have just done this little layout. It is of my brother and sisters in the mid sixties (not sure of the date and will add it once I have spoken to Mum) . As you can see Deb was more interested in hiding than having a picture taken. Thank goodness for digital cameras these days.

I have got to tidy up my scrap area and go and make a chilli for tea now. I don't really want to but I will be glad I did when I am eating it!

200m Hurdles

I went the Scraps in the City crop in Exeter on Saturday and I was very proud of myself as I drove there myself and didn't get a lift as normal. This may not seem like much to some people but I really don't like driving to places I haven't driven to before. This was proved right when I got lost and ended up driving aimlessly around Exeter for about an hour! Never mind, I found it in the end thanks to some directions from Nona (thanks Nona). I would be able to find it straight away next time so that is one hurdle I have jumped :)

Another thing I have sorted this week is well quite a few things that I needed to go and see the doctor for and now the problems are all on the way to being sorted :) One of them being that the mole I have been worrying about is perfectly fine and that there are no other moley problems on my body as I had a full body check. Yippee!

I am very excited this week as I can finally say for definite that Mark and I will be moving back to Plymouth at the beginning of next year - I can't wait.

I did the Proper Little Madam layout at the crop and I was really pleased with how it turned out. I messed around with the photo in Photoshop to create the moody effect and all the little coloured pics. Charlotte asked me why she wasn't smiling when I showed her the lo and I had to remind her that she will never smile for me when I am taking photo's anymore!! The silver journalling does go all the way around the edge of the layout but my scanner just wouldn't fit it in.

Ben Starts School

Ben started school today! I can't believe it, my little boy is now a school boy. He was very excited this morning especially when he put his posh new uniform on and he looked so cute. He is only going half days at first so I picked him up at ten to twelve and he came out so happy. He had made a picture for me with flowers on and the teachers had given him a certificate for his first day (mmmmm... ideal to scrapbook methinks!). He said that he had the best day EVER and can't wait to go tomorrow.

Of course, we had to take the obligatory first day at school photos. I was a little annoyed that Ben's hair is so long but I took him to the hairdressers in Plymouth last week and he point blank refused to sit in the chair. He made such a fuss that even the hairdresser said she would not do his hair. Daddy is going to take him next Saturday whilst I am at the crop (Scraps in the City). Never mind, I can explain on my layout why his hair looks so long for his first day of school lol.

Charlotte starts playgroup five mornings a week tomorrow so it is all happening in our household at the moment.

Charlotte and I made some fairy cakes this morning to celebrate Ben starting school and considering she just HAD to help at every point they turned out nice. Ben and Charlotte certainly enjoyed scoffing them after their lunch.

Stranded at the Theme Park

I was stranded at Flambards yesterday for 4 hours with the kids. We were all on the way to Flambards to visit the ball pool with the kids and Mark got called into work. Well he works near Flambards so he just dropped us off and popped into work. We thought he would be about an hour and a half but he couldn't get away for four hours. It would be ok if we had never been to Flambards before but we have an annual pass now and have been quite a few times over the summer, we were just popping down for an hour or so for the kids.

I didn't have a book or anything to do with me so I wasted loads of time on the rides etc and we went to see the Really Wild Show with birds flying around and parrots doing tricks yet again but I still had to spend about two hours bored out of my brain in the ball pool lol. It was awful but Mark did buy us pizzas and coke to apologise.

Here is the CJ entry I made for a Favourite Childhood Sweets CJ. It was fun to do and I had to force myself not to order any retro sweets from the sites I visited!

Phew!

I have had such a busy August. I popped up to see my Mum in Plymouth on Wednesday dropping my sister in law off at Callington on the way. It was lovely to see Mum (and look at all her new stash!) and the kids had a nice time playing with Nanny and Grandad. I stayed the night. I took Ben and Charlotte's ready beds which are in a bag and just blow up with the pillow and covers all attached. The beds are great, however, I had to share a room with them and everytime they moved in the night I woke up because it made such a noise. I drove back home yesterday and had a lovely nights sleep in my bed.
I woke up for the first time in a month without gunge in my eye. I have had an eye infection, the doctors are not sure that it was conjuctavitis because of how long it has taken to cure. They are still a bit sore but I think they are finally on the mend after I got some super duper cream from the doctor the other day, the drops just didn't work. I have to go to the doctors today if they are not better and be referred to an eye clinic but I think they are alright now :)
I do like having visitors but it is also lovely now to be sat here with the kids and doing whatever we like. I have just used all the veg in my organic veg box to make a stew / soup (I don't know which it is going to be yet). It is bubbling away nicely and smells gorgeous! I also made pancakes for lunch at the request of Ben and they lasted about two seconds lol. I am really enjoying my day just plodding around the house, getting stuff done and not having to entertain.
I have got to do some scrapping tonight as I need to do a CJ. I can't wait, I haven't been able to do anything lately and I am getting excited about putting the kids to bed and doing something REALLY fun!
