My profile

Sarah Youde (aka monroegirl)
Plymouth, UK.

I love to scrap and I love to stitch. I also love reading, eating and the odd glass of red wine! I only wish I had more time to do all the things I love. Most of my time is taken up looking after a couple of other things I love and they are my two gorgeous children Ben and Charlotte. They ARE gorgeous, I am not biased, I have been blessed with beautiful children which is a good thing because I have such wonderful subjects for my scrapbooking addiction.

I am married to Mark and we will celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary in July - we are just as happy now as when we first met. He would rather I didn't spend any money on scrapbooking or cross stitch stash but if I didn't do that I would be perfect and surely that would be really boring! Anyway, this blog is a sort of diary / gallery and I enjoy updating my blog for myself and my family but any visitors are welcome :o)

I Love 'Lighthousekeeping'

I love reading and will read just about anything. There was a book I saw in WH Smiths called The Historian (Elizabeth Kostova) which I thought looked great and really wanted to read. I finished reading Labyrinth (Kate Mosse) which I loved and was so happy that my Mum had bought The Historian. I borrowed the book and I just could not get into it!! I loved Interview with the Vampire and all Anne Rice books so it wasn't vampires that put me off. I can't put my finger on it but finally, after struggling with the book for some time, I decided not to read it. I then read The Mill House (Susan Lewis) which I really enjoyed and was a lot lighter, I wanted something to wipe away the horror of being stuck in a book I was not enjoying.
My sister-in-law Sharon bought me Lighthousekeeping by Jeanette Winterson for my birthday in June and I had not picked it up. I started reading it last night and I love it. Well, at first I wasn't sure. I was getting a little annoyed at all the 'the story starts at this date' and then 'the story may start at this date' and then 'actually it starts at this date or is it this date'. That was annoying! However, OMG the language is so wonderful that I stopped reading to see if anyone had said anything about it on the back of the book, sure enough the language was obviously celebrated in the reviews. The whole book seems like poetry, it's beautiful. I don't have much more to read but I am going to bed right now and I am going to finish it before I go to sleep...

...goodnight.

It's Alive!

My scanner that is! I tried to scan a cd cover that was laying on the computer table yesterday as I was on the phone at the time to my Mum moaning about it not working and it did it perfectly!! I do not know why it wasn't working the day before. I did spend quite a bit of time cleaning the dining room yesterday and pulled out the computer to dust the cables etc, I reckon my scanner went on strike because it needed it's cables cleaned.
Well, no piccies today. I spent yesterday cleaning the house and today washing and ironing! I feel very happy now that everything looks lovely again now and all the clothes are sorted and put away - it's sad I know but I do love it when everything is 'just so'.
I am determined to do some scrapping tomorrow night. I have a CJ entry to do which I am really looking forward to (it's about Sweets!).
My task this weekend is to sort out my printed photos. I only have one plastic box full as we are here in Cornwall temporarily and still have our own house in Devon with the rest of the photographs in the loft. I have decided that I want to be a little more methodical about my scrapbooking. I want to go through the photos and do themed albums and get the photos scrapped. Yeah, right. I will probably just carry on doing layouts of the next good photo that catches my eye - you just have to enjoy it don't you? I AM going to sort out my photographs though ....

Sorry

I haven't been able to update lately but we have had loads of visitors down here and it has been a bit difficult.

Charlotte has been poorly for a few days, being sick etc I think she has a bug but if it goes on I will take her to the doctors.
We went to Flambards the other day and had a good time with the kids. Charlotte was really brave in the playzone and climbed up the highest tower and came down the biggest slide. Ben wouldn't even go up to the first level! They have a great childrens area though and the kids loved it in the ball pool and on all the rides. My hubby was determined that they would go on some of the bigger things and we went on the log flume and got soaked lol. I won't bother to straighted my hair next time we go.

I went to the Scraps in the City crop in Exeter last weekend and it was great as usual and good fun to see everyone and have a nice chat. I did this layout (Filthy Gorgeous) and was really pleased with it. This isn't a really good pic as my scanner has given up the ghost!!! I had to take a photograph of it. My printer isn't working properly either and my internet is rubbish (don't get BT Broadband, I hate it. It's not nearly as good as blueyonder was but I can't get that where I live now). I am really fed up with my computer and peripherals at the moment.

I have got more visitors coming at the end of the week and really need to sort the house out. I haven't done an awful lot lately what with seeing family and having people here, nightmare.

Well enough of my moaning, I will try to update a bit sooner this time - if I am not too busy cleaning :)

Two Posts in One Day!

I just wanted to show you this layout that I did a couple of days ago. I think Charlotte looks gorgeous in this photo.

I am currently using my craftrobo to cut out a wrought iron gate from black bazzill - I am excited, as it will be lovely if it has worked out how I hoped. I drew the gate in Paint Shop Pro and then converted it to a .gsd file - it is taking an age to cut!! The wrought iron gate is for a Circle Journal layout that I am doing for my Favourite Childhood Book. I am doing The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and my layout is inspired by Michael Powell's Secret Garden cross stitch pattern (which I also love).

Little Poppet - The Caterpillar Thief

I am very excited! My sister - who lives in South Africa - is at my Mum's in Plymouth and I am going to see her tomorrow. I haven't seen her for 18 months so I am really looking forward to it. She is going to see such a difference in Ben and Charlotte! Especially Charlotte who was barely walking and not talking when she left to go and live in SA. I am going to phone her in a minute but I will wait a while as she didn't get to Plymouth until about 2.30am by the time she and Mum chatted I bet they didn't go to bed until about 4am (at the earliest!).

I found a baby caterpillar on the windowsill the other night so I gave it to Ben. He loved it and didn't want to throw it outside before bed so I got a little box, punched holes in the top and put some lettuce in it to make the little one happy. Ben insisted on taking the box to bed but I told him to make sure the lid was on before he went to sleep. When we checked on Ben before we went to bed we couldn't even find the box! Ben woke up and sleepily said 'It was there' pointing to the bottom of his bed. Well, Charlotte always plays at bedtime for a lot longer than Ben who goes to sleep before her so I had an idea. I went into Charlotte's bedroom and pulled back the covers - lo and behold the little box was in the bed with her! It was so funny. I opened the box and half of the lettuce was gone (Charlotte loves lettuce) and there was no sign of the little green caterpillar! It has not been seen since - I hope she didn't eat it. We put the box back in Ben's room and told him that the caterpillar must have crawled out of the holes in the night.
